World Mental Health Day – Friday 10th October
Grades matter – but you matter more!
University life is a whirlwind – new people, new pressures, new freedoms. It’s exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming. That’s why World Mental Health Day is the perfect moment to pause, reflect, and take steps to protect your mental wellbeing.
Whether you’re just starting out or deep into your course, here are practical, student-friendly ways to support your mental health – today and every day.
💬 1. Talk about it
You don’t have to go through tough times alone. Opening up to a friend, flatmate, tutor, or counsellor can make a huge difference. Talking helps you process emotions, feel heard, and get support.
Try this: Send a message to someone you trust and say, ‘Can we chat? I’ve been feeling a bit off lately.’
🛌 2. Prioritise sleep
Late-night study sessions and Netflix binges might be part of student life, but poor sleep can seriously affect your mood, focus, and energy. Aim for 7–9 hours and try to keep a regular sleep schedule.
Quick tip: Use the sleep tracker available on Lena’s Support Hub or set a wind-down reminder to help you switch off.
🧘 3. Move your body
Exercise isn’t just about fitness – it’s a proven mood booster. Whether it’s a gym session, a walk between lectures, or yoga in your room, movement helps reduce stress and anxiety.
Bonus: Many campuses offer free or discounted fitness classes – check out what’s available!
📱 4. Use digital tools wisely
Your phone can be a powerful tool for mental health – if used mindfully. Apps for meditation, mood tracking, journaling, and breathing exercises can help you stay grounded.
Explore: Lena’s Student Support Hub offers self-help tools, a gratitude diary, and more – and it’s mobile friendly – sign up or log in today.
🧑🤝🧑 5. Stay connected
Loneliness can creep in, especially during transitions. Make time for social connection, even if it’s just grabbing coffee with a classmate, joining a student society or regularly reaching out to friends and family to keep you grounded – and motivated.
Remember: You don’t need a huge circle – just a few genuine connections can make a big impact.
🆘 6. Know where to get help
Support is out there, and it’s okay to ask for it. Talk with your college or Uni Student Wellbeing Team or contact us. Lena offers free, confidential, and independent counselling, 24/7, 365 days a year. Just fill in the ‘Add me’ form here on the Hub, Email: support@lenabyinspire.com, or call your helpline number.
